1 – Use a Content Delivery Network (CDN)
A CDN is a network of computers around the globe that delivers content such as images and videos from servers near visitors. This saves time loading because there are no distances between locations.
2 – Browser Caching
Browser caching allows resource files to stay on the visitor’s computer faster by telling browsers not to validate with server every time they visit. This saves time and prevents them from blocking rendering.
To make your website faster, browsers can cache lots of information. You can use YSlow (name), to check what information is being cached. Next, adjust the expiration header to set how long you want this information to remain in cache mode. Google offers some excellent tips on how to leverage caching.
Your browser saves elements from a website that you have visited to its cache. This is a temporary storage space. This allows your site to load again without the need for another HTTP request. It saves both time and energy.
Many browsers save data when they visit websites online. This is called “cache”. Cache saves webpage content so that next time they’re visited, there is no need for another HTTP Request.
It is important that your website loads quickly if you want visitors to return to it often. If your page takes too long to load on a user’s computer or browser, they may not return. Developer Tools can help you calculate the time it takes to build your site. The slower the connection, the more they will be able to see how long it took. This is due to latency in transmitting information via wires. This could be avoided if everyone had access points at their homes where all networks were wired together. However, most people don’t have such routers so they are stuck with slow connections.
If so, you could have other issues.
Slow TTFB can often be caused by traffic, network problems, dynamic content creation, server configuration, and traffic. You can resolve these problems by checking your internet connection to ensure it meets the speed requirements.
There are also free online tools that can help you analyze your speed. Developers can also take steps to reduce the font size or load more images per page load, which could help decrease lag time.
11 – Server response time reduced
A DNS (or domain name system) is a server that maintains an index of IP addresses with their associated hostnames. It works in the same way as looking up a phone number to determine where someone is located. Let’s take, for instance, that I wanted to visit www.ubnt.com. My computer will look up the record in my local DNS database and forward me to find out what type of website they have.
Domain Name System (DNS), which is an address directory, stores information like Internet Protocol addresses. It then translates these into a human-readable format that we can understand when we type in URLs. If we want to access something via our web browser, it will first consult its DNS.
The URL is routed to the site’s IP address when you enter it into your browser. Users don’t have to provide too much information and can quickly remember which URLs link to which sites. This process takes time depending on the speed of your DNS provider. If you don’t have a fast DNS provider, change providers immediately to avoid further delays.
This monthly DNS speed comparison report will give you an overview of your provider’s performance and help you identify providers that offer faster speeds. It takes browsers longer to find a site when it has a slow DNS. So switching is faster!
12 – Select the best hosting solution for you
When building a website, it is important to think about your hosting options. There are three options: dedicated, shared and VPS. Although shared hosts are less expensive than VPS plans, they do not offer the same protection against hackers as more expensive plans. You should ensure that your initial plan is sufficient before you upgrade to a higher-end plan. Although shared hosting is great for sites with low traffic, it can be slow and inefficient when dealing with large traffic spikes. However, you can also use other CDN services. They won’t take up too much bandwidth and charge expensive usage fees.

A CDN can speed up the load time of any server within the network that experiences high traffic. It does this by sharing resources with all its partners and utilising them whenever necessary. If someone visits your site from South Africa and requests files from California, where your origin server is located, then they may experience slow loading times as those files travel across oceans to access your files. They cache files on nearby servers, which reduces latency between the sending and receiving of responses. This results in faster global web browsing!
The loading time of CDNs has been reduced. VentureHarbor found that loading times dropped by up to 51% after 20 minutes of work. These improvements can vary from page to page. Large images pages benefit the most from CDNs like MaxCDN and Cloudflare. If you want your site to load at lightning fast speeds without downtime, these CDNs are worth exploring.
Cloudflare has both speed optimisation and security options, but it’s unclear which one is the best for you if you are primarily concerned with improving website load times.
Cloudflare combines CDN and security services to speed up loading times, as well as protect against DDOS attacks and other threats. Cloudflare may not offer the exact service you are looking for, so make sure to choose carefully.
MaxCDN users will create a “pull” zone. Click the “Zones” button in the admin panel. After clicking create, you should see your CDN URL.
It uses a standard naming format and it will be easy to remember in case you run into problems or need to consult a programmer.
Although it takes some time to get used to this naming scheme, it is worth it as it will make it easier to troubleshoot any future issues.
Click “Update” to add up to seven domains.
You will need to add the DNS codes of your new provider through the “Zone Editor”, which is part of your hosting service, in order to set up a CDN. Although the exact location of your CDN will vary from company to company, it is usually located under “Domains” and within Bluehost, this is called “Zone Editor”. If using Bluehost, enter MaxCDN’s domain name (copied from notepad) into one box with type CNAME followed by cdn.yourdomainname or any other custom domains created for the subdomain sites like http://www-sub1site-cdnsite/ and click save!
Cloudflare makes it even easier. Cloudflare makes it even easier to optimize images so they are no bigger than necessary. You should use CSS sprites with icons and buttons to speed up page loading.
CSS sprites combine your images into one large image, and display only the parts you choose to see. This reduces the load time as users don’t need to wait for multiple images to see what they want.
17 – Allow compression
Gzip files can be used to speed up website load times. Gzip is an application that temporarily substitutes code from similar text documents in order to reduce file size. This is great for CSS and HTML, as these documents often have repeat code and whitespace.

18 – Reduce image sizes
While images can play an important part of a user’s experience and make up the bulk of your site’s overall size, they are also essential. This causes slower loading times and frustrates users who must wait for anything to appear on their screens.
Sites take a long time to load images after you visit them, refresh the page or refresh it. This is due to large file sizes. It also means that you spend more time waiting and nothing happens while you browse online. These problems can be overcome by optimising each image file before it is uploaded to your server. This includes reducing its pixel dimensions, and removing any metadata.
The highest conversion rates for eCommerce websites are around 5%, with an average of 1-3%. You can increase your site’s conversion rates by adding lots and lots of product images. A survey found that 66% of respondents wanted at least three photos to buy something online. However, only 33%-44% will purchase without any evidence.
This means that image compression is crucial, regardless of whether you have an eCommerce store. Pingdom is a tool that allows you to see the impact images have on pages. Do a page speed test and then go to the “Requests according to content type” section. This example shows that more than 40% of the pages content is pictures. It could have been smaller to reduce bandwidth for visitors coming from different parts of the world.
According to one study, reducing 22MB of images to 300KB led to a 70% decrease in interaction time. This is the time it takes for your users to start using your site. You can reduce the image file size by cropping and setting a suitable size. For example, if you want an image that is 570px wide, then resize it there. Don’t upload an image that is 2000px high when you only need 560 pixels high. This will slow down everything else on your site.
Did you ever notice that a smaller image doesn’t look the same when it is resized? Your website might be too large. These tools can help you compress images.

Picnik lets you upload, edit and download photos directly from their website. They can be saved to your WordPress server permanently or deleted as needed.

Speed Optimisation Tools for WordPress
W3 Total Cache
You can enable caching on your website by using the appropriate WordPress plugins. Navigate to “Page cache” in General Settings. Check the box next to “Enable.” The simple act of enabling W3 Total Cache should boost your website’s speed. However, there are many other things this plugin can help with. Enabling browser browser side caching (or saving cached versions of your website inside visitors’ browsers) will make it load faster because it refreshes from the saved copy and not downloading again.
To speed up your site’s loading time, enable browser cache by going to General Settings > Browser Cache. Check the box next “Enable” if your website is hosted on a VPS server or dedicated server.
You can also find this feature under your General Settings.
This option should be disabled if you are using a shared server. Object caching is resource-intensive and can slow down your site. This is exactly what you don’t want when using W3 Total Cache. After completing the recommended settings in the article text, you should see improvements in load times and bandwidth savings. If your static HTML website doesn’t use PHP scripts, or any similar (meaning there is no dynamic content), you can enable cache by adding these lines to your .htaccess file.

Images can be saved as JPGs or PNGs. JPG files are lossy compressed, which means that some images’ data may be lost if they are saved in this format. Although most viewers don’t notice this data loss, it results in smaller files than other formats such as the PNG. Uploading pages that have many photos can reduce load times and not affect their appearance. However, if you want to make sure every pixel counts, it is a good idea to save them in a high-quality format like PNX.
You need to ensure that your graphics are saved in PNG format to get the best results. Because it is more detailed and has better colours than any other file format on a computer, GIFs are best used for animations and small details that have less than 10×10 pixels in colour. However, they should not be used as logo files because of their pixelated quality when magnified at 100%. Avoid using empty image src code, which can cause an error message such as “Failed loading resource” or “The given path is not available.”
Clear lines and sharp detail are important for your logos and screenshots.
If there is no source within the quotation marks, it will request your directory or that page. This could add traffic to your site, or even cause data corruption. This is a simple fix. You can either add file paths to images or get rid of those annoying tags.
Browsers will ask for the source of any quotations if there is none. Sometimes the browser doesn’t find any so it makes requests back and forth until someone decides which one is priority (i.e. yours). If there are too many people trying to look, then everyone is trolled with unnecessary chatter and corrupted information. Fortunately these fixes can be found.
What are Core Web Vitals and How Do They Work?
Core Web Vitals is a standard set of metrics that Google provides to help web developers understand how users interact with websites. Core Web Vitals tools provide a snapshot of a user’s real-world experience with a page. This includes their average load time, bounce rate, and other useful information that can be used to improve site optimisation.
Core Web Vitals provides clear and measurable data on your website’s user experience performance. Core Web Vitals offers three main metrics to measure the quality of online customers’ visits to your website: Page loading time (PLT), ease-of-interaction score, and visual stability.
Each metric shows different aspects of a user’s experience with a webpage. Page speed — How fast the browser tab or window loads; ease-of-access — Does content appear when clicked? Visual stability – Does my browser size or screen resolution have an issue? This system allows you to identify potential problems at all stages of development and deployment.
Core Web Vitals provides a set of metrics that developers can use to troubleshoot problems on websites. These core metrics – Largest Contentful Painting, Time to First Byte, and Load Duration – are extremely useful in determining user experience and how fast your website loads in different browsers. This metric measures the content size rendered during loading. It is important to understand what it means and why you should pay attention to its numerical value when evaluating site performance using Core Web Vitals tools such as Pingdom or GTmetrix.

What is LCP?
LCP is a measurement of load times for various content blocks on a page. These items take time to render in the current screen’s viewport. This determines how fast they can interact with buttons and links. This can help you to convert visitors to sales or other conversions.
Online web pages often display a layout shift as they load. As the website loads, creative layouts and designs may change to accommodate more text or content. Users who are reading the page at this time may find it confusing. It’s important to not leave customers wondering what their screen should look like after everything is loaded. Cumulative Layout shift (CLS), which is an algorithm that analyzes pixels left-to-right in each row of HTML data until there is variation in coloration between consecutive elements h1 tags, helps developers determine whether images or links have changed position. The new CLS score will indicate whether cumulative changes have been detected after loading all.
What is CLS?
CLX is a measure of how content on a website moves between two frames. This includes text, buttons, and banners. This can cause confusion for users while they read or navigate through your site. It will also hinder their experience. You want to make sure that all your posts are still visible on the device after they have loaded.
CLS (Content Layout Study), monitors how elements move in the visible viewport as they are rendered over time. These movements can cause confusion for people with seizures or other disorders like dyslexia who may have trouble following movement across multiple devices. To avoid disorientation, visual stimuli should be ordered sequentially and not spatial proximity.
CLS assesses how stable a website is from the user’s perspective. CLS analyses core metrics such as layout shift (percentage of change in position), impact fraction, number of clicks required to complete task on site and distance fraction (% links that are more than one click away). Each of these factors should have a minimum of 1%. This will allow you to maintain a low average first input delay, which measures the latency time for each interaction with your website.
Modern websites are complex because they have streams and feeds that automatically update every second. Although this complexity may lead to better content delivery systems for users, it can also cause lag in the system because your browser processes all these changes on-screen. Developers must create websites that load faster by minimising the delay in loading dynamic elements.

FCP (First Contentful Paint) is a measure of how long it takes for DOM elements to be rendered by a browser. This metric is used to identify render-blocking resources. It can be measured in seconds and has a variety of FCP scores.
0-2 Seconds: Green (fast).
2-4 Seconds: Orange (moderate).
Page load time below the fold takes 4+ minutes, or more than 20% of page load time – Red(slow)
0-4.3 seconds Green (fast).
4.4-5.8 seconds Orange (moderate).
